The Suffolk County Police Department announced Wednesday the arrests of Steven Brown, 44, Jeffrey Mackey, 38, Amanda Wallace, 40, and Alexis Nieves, 33, the department said in a statement to PEOPLE.
The suspects have been charged with hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse, per the statement.
Police responded to a scene last week when a student on her way to school found a “severed left arm” near a park, the department said in an earlier statement to PEOPLE. She reported the discovery to her father, who then called 911, the statement said.
Some of the remains were determined to be those of a man, police said.
A severed head and other body parts found belonged to a woman, police said in an updated statement.
On Tuesday, police found more body parts in a park a few miles away, per the statement. The remains belonged to the same victims whose remains were discovered last week, they said.
