The child’s aunt told reporters Tuesday night that the child was attempting to retrieve a football when the incident occurred,FOX affiliate WOFLreported.

Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In astatement, Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Maria Vazquez said the school district “is fully cooperating with the ongoing Florida Highway Patrol investigation.” Counseling has also been made available “for any student or staff member dealing with the news.”
“My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the student’s family and school community,” Vazquez said. “To lose a child so suddenly and tragically is extremely difficult especially for family and friends."
According to WESH, authorities are reviewing footage from the incident to get a better idea of what happened,
