911 Call Details Moments After Siblings Were Swallowed by Sand Hole: 'My Daughter's in There'

Sloan Mattingly, 7, and her brother Maddox, 9, became trapped while digging a hole in the sand near 4424 El Mar Drive in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, according to theBroward County Sheriff’s Office.

The young girl was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where she later died, the BCSO said.

“There’s a child that they’re trying to get out,” the individual said at the beginning of the call. She told dispatch that she initially heard the children’s father “yelling for help because his child is caught in a hole in the sand.”

While speaking with the dispatcher, the caller said the mom began yelling, “My daughter’s in there.”

“Everybody’s screaming,” the caller added.

Sloan and Maddox were on vacation with their parents from Indiana when the deadly incident occurred, according to the BCSO.

Sally Krouse, who organized aGoFundMecampaign for Sloan’s family, said the 7-year-old’s mother Therese described the incident as “a freak accident.”

“What started as an amazing family trip quickly turned into the devastatingly tragic loss,” Krouse wrote in the description of the online fundraiser, which has raised more than $33,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

Added Krouse, “We know that no amount of money will bring beautiful Sloan back, but your donation can help bring Sloan home from Florida, cover funeral costs and ease the financial stress as they learn to navigate their new world.”
