British actress Shirley Anne Field, known for films like 1966’sAlfie, has died of natural causes, her family announced Monday. She was 87.
They added, “Shirley Anne will be greatly missed and remembered for her unbreakable spirit and her amazing legacy spanning more than five decades on stage and screen.”
Born on June 27, 1936, in London, Field first worked as a model during the 1950s. By the latter half of that decade, she began transitioning into acting roles.

It wasn’t until the next decade that Field’s fame truly blossomed. Her role as Tina Lapford in the 1960 filmThe Entertainer, in which she starred opposite Laurence Olivier, solidified her celebrity status. During that year, Field starred in a eight different projects.
On the small screen, she took on roles inMadson,Where the Heart Is,Waking the Deadand more. In terms of live productions, Field is known for her work as a part of the casts ofThe Cemetery ClubandFive Blue Hair Ladies Sitting on a Green Park Bench.
Some of Field’s most notable films includedSaturday Night and Sunday Morning,The War LoverandMy Beautiful Laundrette.Her famous costars included Steve McQueen, Robert Wagner, Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier.
