Alex Rodriguez Spells Out Sweet Message in Rose Petals to Jennifer Lopez After Engagement

Alex Rodriguezis filled with romantic surprises!

Shortly after sharing the happy news that he hadgotten engagedtoJennifer Lopez, the former baseball star, 43, showed off one more sweet surprise he had lined up for his new fiancée.

In an adorable clip posted to his Instagram Story on Saturday night, Rodriguez showed off a message he had written on the couple’s bed using rose petals, which spelled out a proclamation of love. Making it even more romantic, Rodriguez also placed six long-stemmed roses at the foot of the bed.

Towards the end of the clip, Lopez, 49, even makes a brief cameo as she follows a trail of rose petals into the room.

Choosing to let the video speak for itself, Rodriguez shared the clip alongside a trio of emojis: a red heart, a pair of lips and a red hot flame.

Lopez and Rodriguez announced their happy news on Saturday, sharingmatching photosof Lopez wearing herstunning diamond engagementring as Rodriguez romantically holds her hand.

“She said yes,” Rodriguez wrote, while Lopez simply captioned the image with eight heart emojis.

Speaking about the engagement, a source told PEOPLE that “Jennifer is ecstaticand so are their families and friends.”

“Very few people knew Alex planned on proposing. It was very much a surprise for Jennifer,” the source added. “It was just how Alex wanted it.”

Opening up about how Rodriguez’s decision to pop the question during the couple’sromantic getaway to the Bahamaswas “very fitting,” the source went on to explain that the destination “has always been very special to them.”

“Very early on in their relationship, they snuck away to the Bahamas to get to know each other in privacy,” the source shared.

Many fans and celebrities alike were quick to congratulate the couple on their good news, but nobody was quite as enthusiastic asEllen DeGeneres, who immediatelyvolunteered to spearhead the wedding planning.

The talk show host has been urging the couple to take their relationship to the next step for months now, even telling theSecond Actstar last November that Rodriguez had texted her that he wasgetting ready to propose.

“You should [get married], because y’all seem very happy,” DeGeneres said. “I mean, it would be good to do for Christmas.”

“Because you and A-Rod just celebrated your two-year anniversary… This is a clock, and it’s basically to remind him that time is ticking and he should hurry up and propose,” DeGeneres said. “Or you should propose.”

Lopez and Rodriguez opened up to PEOPLE last December about how grateful they feel to have found each other.

“Jennifer hasgiven so much to me and my kidsover the last two years,” the former baseball star said. “Her best quality is undoubtedly her generosity. I see it every day and my kids see it as well.”

“Everything feels healthy and different,” added Lopez. “We bring something to each other’s lives that is profound, good and healthy.”
