America Ferrera on Her 10-Month-Old Son's Milestone That Left Her 'Ecstatic and Also Horrified'

Motherhood is one exhilarating (and sometimes terrifying) experience.

“A lot of my moments of pride have to do with my little guy now,” Ferrera, who welcomed her first child with husband Ryan Piers Williams in May, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue, out now.

Praising her son as “growing in light years,” the 34-year-oldSuperstoreactress shares, “It’s like every day he does something new.”

Detailing one of Baz’s recent accomplishments, Ferrera explains that one day she walked “into his nursery after a nap and he had pulled himself up on his crib and he was standing there.”

“I was at once so ecstatic and also horrified that our life wasabout to get a lot more complicatednow that he can pull himself out of his crib,” she says.

TheHow to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden Worldvoice actress tells PEOPLE there are “a million little things” her son does that make her laugh, like “the way he grunts … and makes a lot of effort noises.”

“It just seems like he’s lifting 1,000 lbs. of weight and he’s so committed to it, he’s so focused,” Ferrera explains. “Hewill not give up, which I love. It makes me proud, but also the little noises that come out of his body when he’s pulling himself up are pretty funny.”

“I get down on the groundand make funny faces andnow my monkey noises are a real fan favorite with Baz, so I’m doing them pretty often,” the actress reveals. “The monkey noises … make me feel quite juvenile, in the best way.”
