Andie MacDowell and Husband to Divorce

Actress Andie MacDowell has filed for divorce from her husband, businessman Rhett Hartzog, after nearly three years of marriage.

“It’s a painful and very private time,” a source tells PEOPLE. No other details about the split were given.

MacDowell and Hartzog first met as classmates at Gaffney High School in South Carolina. They reunited in July 1999 when MacDowell’s sister, Julia, reintroduced them. “I had a secret crush on her in high school,” Hartzog told PEOPLE after proposing to MacDowell in 1999. “She’s such a good person, a great mother and a good Christian. She’s as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside.”

MacDowell, who is best known for her role inFour Weddings and a Funeral,will appear in the upcoming comedyBeauty Shop.
