A youngKobe Bryant, fresh off inking a rookie contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, went out of his way to make sure a family received a memento during their chance meeting at a California shopping center.
Bryant joined the Lakers right out of high school in 1996, and while he was popular at the time, he was far removed from the fame he would experience over the next two decades as a five-time champion and NBA MVP.

“I’m used to these meetings lasting 15 or 20 minutes,” Graham, the editor of theAugusta Free Press,tells PEOPLE.
“But we were sitting there talking for 2½ hours. She had many questions for me. I knew right away she would do well.”
“I told her she was a natural journalist,” Graham tells PEOPLE.

It seemed like every husband’s worst nightmare.
In the winter of 1982, in the upscale Rochester, N.Y., suburb of Brighton, Jim Krauseneck told police he’d returned home from work to find a gruesome scene: His wife Cathy was dead in bed with an ax in her head.
Jim grabbed the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, then ran to get help from a neighbor, who told police Jim, then 30, “had a look of terror on his face” and struggled to speak.

When she was a little girl, Jessa Dillow Crisp’s family members molested her and sold her to have sex with strangers.
“I remember being shown pornography of me when I was a toddler,” Crisp, now 34, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.
When she was elementary school-aged, she remembers being dropped off at motels and brothels near Toronto. She wasn’t allowed to go to school.
“I always wanted to,” she says.

Police in Portland, Oregon, are asking the public to come forward with information about the death of Zoe Linn McAnally, whose body was found last week.
McAnally, 25, was identified Tuesday as the woman who was found dead in the Northeast part of the city on Feb. 1.
Police did not discuss the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body, including what kinds of conditions the remains were found in.
