Sarah Krivanek’s wellbeing remains a concern for activists and loved ones, heightened after an official saw the American woman’s condition in person for the first time since she was imprisoned in Russia.
Natalia Filimonova, a prisoner’s rights activist working for nonprofit organization Russia Behind Bars, organized a visit from the state-run Prisoner Monitoring Service recently. She tells PEOPLE that foreign inmates do not have access to money and supplies from family and friends abroad “so they find themselves in a critical situation if their health deteriorates.

On Monday, Franklin’snephew Tim Franklinspoke to PEOPLE following the news of the76-year-old star’s illness, saying she was “resting” at home. “Family is there with her,” said Tim.

A source close to the singer spoke to the Associated Press on Monday to confirm that Franklin is “seriously ill” but declined to provide any additional details as to the severity or the cause of the 76-year-old singer’s illness.

Four big cats left behind at a now-defunct drive-thru roadside attraction in northeast Oklahoma are getting a second chance thanks to two sanctuaries and a California zoo.
According to the Oakland Zoo, on Friday, the California zoo teamed up with Arkansas’Turpentine Creek Wildlife RefugeandLions Tigers & Bears— a sanctuary in Alpine, California — for a cross-country rescue involving two tigers, a lion, and a tiger hybrid that were abandoned at a closed Oklahoma roadside zoo.
