An Alabama woman has been charged with murder after she fatally shot a man — but she says that he had beaten and raped her and she shot him in self-defense under the state’s Stand Your Ground law.
Brittany Smith, 32, shot an acquaintance, Todd Smith, three times in the kitchen of her home in Stevenson, Alabama. She was arrested and charged with murder in his death.
On Monday, Jackson County Circuit Judge Jenifer Holt rejected the “Stand Your Ground” self-defense claim, citing inconsistencies in Brittany’s testimony.

A kidnapping victim in Alabama called 911 on Friday — and when police arrived, she led them to a dead woman’s body.
According toABC3340.com, a woman called police to report that she was being held against her will, but she didn’t know her exact location. Police traced her phone to an apartment complex in Jefferson County, near Birmingham.
When they arrived, police say the kidnapped woman stumbled down the apartment complex’s stairs, her hands bound with zip ties.

The body of an Alabama woman who’d been missing for more than a month was found at the bottom of a well.
Three men, Kendal Tyler Battles, 29, Joseph Brandon Nevels, 20, and Devon Trent Hall, 27, have been charged with murder and abuse of a corpse, according to Tuscaloosa County Jail records.
Investigators believe Watkins was at the home of one of the suspects when she was allegedly assaulted and killed.

His wife, Anna Willis, was placed in a medically induced coma for four days and has been “receiving life saving care from the trauma team” at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., her family wrote on aGoFundMe pagecreated to assist Anna.
Anna was taken out of the coma as of this past Saturday, the family wrote, and began surgeries this week.
“Her children Courtney and Cameron are there with her trying to make sense of a senseless crime,” Anna’s sister Christy Mitchell wrote on the page, which has a goal of helping Anna out “when she is ready to start over.

An Alabama woman is behind bars for allegedly kidnapping and pushing a woman off a cliff nearly two years ago, according to multiple news reports.
The 37-year-old was reported missing in January 2022, WHNT reports. She was reportedly last seen driving a dark-colored Jeep.
