Alaska congressman Don Young — a Republican and the oldest current member of both the House and Senate — died on Friday at the age of 88, his office announced.
Young was the longest-serving Republican in the House of Representatives.
On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Young would lie in state in National Statuary Hall in the United States Capitol on Tuesday, March 29.

Alaska’sLisa Murkowskiwants to keep her seat in the U.S. Senate — and she’s ready to fight for it.
The Republican, who’s served as a senator since 2002,announced her reelection campaignon Friday with an ad that paints her as a respected and independent politician with a long list of accomplishments.
“I’m Lisa Murkowski and I love Alaska with all my heart. I’m proud to call this special place my home and honored to be your voice in the United States Senate,” Murkowski, 64, says in the ad.

“Alaska Wildlife Troopers encountered two deer swimming between islands in Southeast Alaska, but these deers were about 4 miles offshore,” a caption reads over the social media video of the deer swimming towards the boat.
The rescuing troopers were returning to the Alaskan city of Ketchikan from the Ernest Sound when they spotted the needy animals.

The incident took place at the Sit Eeti Shaanax Glacier Valley Elementary School on Tuesday morning, according to astatementfrom the Juneau School District.
“Shortly after breakfast was served students complained of the milk tasting bad and burning their mouth/throat,” officials wrote.
After immediately looking into the matter, staff found that the liquid “was actually a floor sealant resembling liquid milk,” officials said.

The indictment against Schilmiller alleges he promised at least $9 million to Brehmer for the “rape and murder someone in Alaska.” In exchange, the indictment alleges Schilmiller requested — and received — images and footage of Hoffman’s June 2 slaying.
According to the new filings, Brehmer enlisted four friends — identified as Kayden McIntosh, 16; Caleb Leyland, 19; and two other teens whose names are being withheld due to their ages — to help plan and carry out the murder.
