Alex Murdaugh, the once-prominent South Carolina attorney who wasarrested on Thursdayfor allegedly stealing more than $4 million from his late housekeeper’s insurance settlement, is a person of interest in the double homicide of his wife and son.
In an interview withFOX Carolina News, his attorney, Jim Griffin, confirmed Murdaugh is under scrutiny in the murder case.
“SLED [South Carolina Law Enforcement Division] has said from the get-go that Alex was a person of interest,” Griffin told the station.

Alex Murdaughwas handcuffed just moments after he was convicted of killing his wife and son.
On Thursday, a juryfound the disgraced lawyer guiltyof the gruesome 2021 murders. As the courtroom waited for the verdict, Murdaugh stood stoic. Once his fate was read, he rocked his head back and forth very slightly.
Moments later, officers surrounded Murdaugh, 54, and cuffed him, leading him into custody.
Jurors had deliberated for three hours before deciding on the guilty verdict.

“Alex Murdaugh tried one last con to prevent the accountability he has never had to face in his life, but the jury saw through that and properly found he murdered his wife and son in cold blood,” Waters added.

“I think I love you,” a person named Nicollete K. reportedly wrote to Murdaugh on March 12, 2023, while Murdaugh was being held at the Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia, S.C. “I think about you all day everyday. I swear on my life I’ll never say a single word to anyone important or not important. I genuinely care for you.”
