Two days after prominent South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaughwas shot in the headin Hampton County, South Carolina, he has issued a statement saying that he will resign from his family’s law firm and enter treatment.
Murdaugh, 53, called 911 on Saturday afternoon at 1:34 p.m. after receiving “a superficial gunshot wound to the head,” the S.C. Law Enforcement Division said Sunday. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

Beleaguered attorneyAlex Murdaughwill surrender to authorities in connection with the alleged botched suicide plot he hatched to claim a $10 million life insurance payout for his son, his lawyer, Jim Griffin, tells PEOPLE.
“We have been informed that there is a warrant for his arrest for conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. He plans to voluntarily surrender tomorrow and the arraignment and bond hearing will be held at 4 p.m. at the Hampton County magistrate court,” Griffin says in a statement on Wednesday.

The man whoAlex Murdaughallegedly hired in abotched suicide-for-hire plotwas his primary oxycodone supplier, the disgraced attorney allegedly told police.
In an interview with theNew York Times, Murdaugh’s attorney Jim Griffin said that his client struggled with addiction and that he told police that Curtis Edward Smith, 61, was the one who furnished him with the drugs.
Both men were arrested after authorities say that Murdaugh hired Smith to kill him so that his son, Buster, would receive a $10 million insurance policy.

The murder trial ofAlex Murdaughhas been adjourned after the courthouse received a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon.
Just before 12:30 p.m., Judge Clifton Newman abruptly dismissed the jurors for a “break.” After they filed out, he addressed the rest of the gallery, saying, “We have to evacuate the building at this time. We’ll be in recess until we discover what’s going on.”
He gave no further details. As onlookers filed out, police officers urged everyone to leave in an orderly fashion.

The attorneys allege that Hill had repeatedly referenced Murdaugh to the jury in ways that made him appear guilty. They also claim she made efforts to remove a juror she wasn’t confident would turn in a guilty verdict. Murdaugh’s attorneys also claim Hill “pressured the jurors to reach a quick verdict, telling them from the outset of their deliberations that it ‘shouldn’t take them long,’ “ the motion reads.
