Speaking withMichael Strahanfor the ABC specialWhat Is Jeopardy?that aired on Thursday, Trebek, 79, opened up about his health and coming to terms with leaving the trivia show he has hosted since 1984.
In March, Trebek announced that he’d been diagnosed withstage 4 pancreatic cancerand underwentchemotherapy. Now, he said he’s trying another form of treatment.

Amid the controversy,Jeopardy!fans resurfaced an old clip of Trebek talking about two people he thought would make a good host, neither of whom were part of the previous run of guests hosts this year.

TheJeopardyhost, 79, shared in aninterview with ABC Newsthat since his diagnosis, “People all over America and abroad have decided they want to let me know now, while I’m alive, about the impact that I’ve been having on their existence.”
“They have come out and they have told me, and my gosh, it makes me feel so good,” Trebek added.

On Thursday, just two days after Trebek returned to theJeopardy!set for his first day back on the job, the game show host, 78, shared a video message to his fans and supporters thanking them for their well wishes during this trying time.
“Hi everyone, I just wanna take a few moments to say thanks to the — believe it or not — hundreds of thousands of people who have sent in tweets, texts, emails, cards, and letters wishing me well following my recent health announcement,” he began in theclip shared on Twitter.

One day after singerLizzo declared that she’d “made it”after being an answer onJeopardy!, the show’s longtime host Alex Trebek, 79, has launched a new public service announcement to help raise awareness for pancreatic cancer — a disease he was diagnosed with last March.
“I wished I had known sooner that the persistent stomach pain I experienced before my diagnosis was a symptom of pancreatic cancer,” Trebek says in the announcement, adding that other common symptoms include “mid-back pain, unexplained weight loss and the yellowing of the skin or eyes.
