Former U.S. figure skater John Coughlin, who died of an apparent suicide on Friday, hit a very low point after he was suspended from the sport the previous day, his longtime coach tells PEOPLE.

A Republican candidate for Congress in Texas is pleased with a judge’s recent decision to allow her to return home in April — following the state’s March 1 primary election with her name on the ballot — as her bitter divorce unfolds in court and her estranged husband remains in their home with his daughter and their dogs.

A former Stanford University employee has been convicted in the murder of Janet Taylor, the daughter of famous football coach Chuck Taylor.
Janet, 21, was found murdered along the side of the road near Stanford’s campus in March 1974. Now, 48 years later, a jury took just about an hour to determine John Arthur Getreu was guilty of killing the young woman,ABC Newsreported of the “Stanford murders” Tuesday.

Las Vegas police made a chilling discovery when they chased a man after he failed to pull over for a routine traffic stop — and found a severed head, legs and a torso in the back of a truck he allegedly stole, authorities say.
On Dec. 23, at about 3:42 p.m., patrol officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department tried to stop a man driving a truck when he took off, the LVMPD says in a release.

A Staten Island, New York, man who got into an accident while allegedly drunk driving was told moments before going to court that his pregnant fiancée along with their unborn child died in the crash.
Adriana Sylmetaj died of serious traumatic injuries after being ejected from the passenger seat of a Dodge sedan when it crashed into a wooden pole on Staten Island, N.Y. around 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 28, an NYPD spokesperson toldStaten Island Advance.
