At least one person has died, and “multiple” people are presumed missing after alandslide slammedinto numerous homes in Alaska on Monday, according to local authorities.
The “large” landslide took place at mile 11 on the Zimovia Highway in Wrangell just before 9 p.m. local time, according to a news release fromAlaska State Police.
Three single-family homes “were directly in the path of the landslide,” troopers said.

One dog is dead and 61 others were rescued from allegedly “unsanitary and inhumane living conditions” at a North Carolina kennel.
Currituck County officials announced on Friday that Currituck Animal Services rescued 47 adults dogs and 14 puppies from Bentwood Labradors in Moyock. They were taken to a local animal shelter for treatment, according to aFacebookpost.
“One of our animal care techs looked and saw her in the doghouse and he checked her, and she was deceased,” Maurer told the outlet.

On Monday, six dogs, one of which was found dead, were discovered abandoned outside an auto shop in Houston, where temperatures had dropped below freezingdue to a historic winter storm.
According to local news stationKHOU, authorities responded to a call about the canines and found five dogs still alive outside the Texas auto shop — but no sign of the pets' owners. The temperature outside was 18 degrees when the surviving dogs, including one emaciated canine, were rescued.

A fisherman has been found alive two weeks after he went missing.
The man had been onboard a 43-foot vessel that departed Grays Harbor, Washington on Oct. 12, with two people onboard, according to the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Northwest.
The U.C. Coast Guard announced on Tuesday in apost on X, formerly known as Twitter, that a search had begun for the missing mariners after they had reportedly intended to return on Oct.

When Team USA begins their Beijing Olympics journey this week, fans at home will be feeling the pride!
As for the sports, Americans said in the survey that they’re most excited for figure skating (39%), ski jumping (29%) and bobsled (28%).
And survey respondents are betting big on Team USA: the majority said they expect America to finish with the most medals in snowboarding, skiing and figure skating.
