1 in 3 Americans Think Their Pet Is Training Them to Become a Better Parent, Survey Finds

However, as a recent survey of 2,000 American cat and dog owners recently learned, pet ownership can come with many anxieties and expenses just as child-rearing can. For example, the typical pet owner spends $176 on initial supplies and adoption fees to bring their furry friend home and another $111 per month.

1 in 44 U.S. Children Are Diagnosed with Autism, New CDC Data Suggests

Photo: Getty New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests more children in the U.S. are being diagnosed with autism at younger ages. The CDC released 2018 data on Thursday from nearly a dozen states that showed, among 8-year-olds,1 in 44 had been diagnosedwith autism. In 2016, the number was1 in 54 childrenfor the same age group. While autism numbers have grown consistently over the years, experts believe the increase is due to raised awareness and access to treatment services, not the number of children who have autism.

1 in 5 Americans Consider Their Child's Potential Zodiac Sign When Planning a Pregnancy, Survey Says

Results revealed over half (53%) of respondents believe astrology is “real,” with Tauruses the most likely to trust the power of the stars (63%). Other signs most likely to believe astrology is real were Geminis (59%) and Aquariuses (58%). On the other hand, Leos, Capricorns and Scorpios admitted to being the most skeptical about astrology and their horoscopes.

1 in 50 Manhattan Residents Contracted COVID-19 in the Last Week, City Data Shows

The finding was based off data from the city health department.As of Tuesday, the city had a positivity rate of 19 percent for COVID-19, the news outlet added, while also noting health officials have reported a seven-day average of more than 20,000 new cases a day.

1 in 500 Americans Have Now Died of COVID-19

As of Sept. 15, at least 665,496 Americans have died of COVID-19,according to Johns Hopkins University. When the country, which has a population of more than 332.7 million, surpassed 663,000 deaths on Tuesday, that meant 1 in 500 people had died.
