Detectives said they believe the victim’s son “unintentionally discharged” the gun, leading to his mother’s death. The boy initially “fabricated a story” about the shooting, but “eventually gave a true account” of what happened, the JSCO said. “This offense is a tragedy for the Cook family and the entire community,” the department said on Monday.

A 12-year-old boy allegedly shot a 13-year-old boy at an Oakland, California school Monday afternoon, according to local authorities. The victim was in stable condition after the shooting at Madison Park Academy, which is located in East Oakland’s Sobrante Park neighborhood, Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong told reporters, according toNBC News.
