An 83-year–old South Carolina man with a heart condition has been rescued from a ravine after disappearing from this home the night prior.
The elderly man was reported missing in the Lake Monticello area around 11 a.m. local time on Monday, Dec. 23, according to a news release from theFairfield County Sheriff’s Office(FCSO).

“We’re alive, so that’s the most important thing,” Aaron Samson toldCBS Morningson Thursday, Jan. 9. “We’re doing okay.”
According to theAssociated Press, Samson was in Los Angeles' Pacific Palisades caring for his father-in-law at his home when he got an alert on his phone notifying him of a wildfire in the area.
“For the next hour, I was figuring out, ‘Do we go? Do we go?’ ” Samson recalled toCBS Mornings.

An elderly woman was robbed of her lottery winnings moments after collecting them from a store in Florida, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at a store on Curry Ford Road, near the intersection with S. Goldenrod Road in Orlando, Fla., according to aFacebook postfrom the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Another man comes out of the store and attempts to stop the robbery, but the suspect violently hits the woman, who falls to the ground as the second man tries to pull him away.

Three Fluvanna County, Virginia sheriff’s deputies rescued an elderly woman with a broken hip from a burning home — and those pivotal moments were captured on camera.
Just after 5:30 a.m on Aug. 2, the deputies responded to a 911 call in Cunningham for a “structure fire with an individual trapped inside,” according to aFacebookstatement from the sheriff’s office.
“Because of the heavy smoke, the deputies had to make multiple entries before” they could rescue the woman, officials said.

In 1978, Dot Sharp, a single mother of four, would visit the McDonald’s in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, where her two daughters worked at the time.
“I used to take them up and drop them off, and then I’d go up late at night and pick them up or on the weekend and pick them up to take them home,” the now 84-year-old tells PEOPLE.
