Mike Scarlett was a well-known writer and actor in the indie film industry in Texas. Over the years, he entered half a dozen short films in the Rack Focus Film Competition.
Scarlett, 66, had plans to debut his latest 10-minute film, “The Cabin,” at Rack Focus Film Competition at Richardson’s Studio Movie Grill on Oct. 9.
But he never got the chance.

Elijah Vue, 3, was last seen around 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, according to investigators. His mother, Katrina Baur, first appeared on the Manitowoc County Jail’s inmate list on Wednesday morning, according to localWHBY.
The outlet reported that Jesse Vang, a man who lives at the same address where Vue was last seen on Tuesday, was also in custody.
Baur, 31, and Vang, 39, were still listed as inmates at the Manitowoc County Jail on Thursday morning, an updated prisoner list showed, but it is unclear why they were taken into custody or if they’re facing charges.

The remains of a 32-year-old man from England who went missing more than two years ago have been recovered in Georgia, authorities said last week.
A Georgia Bureau of Investigation medical examiner confirmed his identity.
The FBI Jacksonville’s Evidence Response Team led the investigation and search for Doughty after his mother reported him missing as he visited north Florida in September 2022. She shared with police her “concern[s] for his well-being” at the time, according to the new statement.
