Beau died after he was taken to a local hospital; his father was treated and eventually released, police said.
The attacking dog was an Olde English bulldog,WBMAreported; it was promptly euthanized, police said.
Beau had several prior interactions with the dog, the police statement said, and the dog had no history of aggressive behavior.
Investigators announced on Thursday no charges will be filed.

Alabama police have identified the two decomposing bodies found earlier this week after a 12-year-old girl escaped her assailant and led them to a mobile home.
Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett says the victims are the girl’s mother Sandra Vazquez Ceja, 29, and her younger brother, who has not been named.
Ceja was the girlfriend of Jose Paulino Pascual-Reyes, 37, who is charged with capital murder, corpse abuse and kidnapping.

Before the execution, Frazier, 52, spoke his final words: “First of all, I want to apologize to the friends and family of Pauline Brown, what happened to her should never have happened,” Frazier said, according to theAssociated Press.
Frazier also expressed an apology to the Black community and addressed Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer after he petitioned her to return him to the state to serve his life sentence for separate crimes.

An Alabama man’s family had some harsh words for him on Thursday as he was sentenced for his part in his ex-wife’s 2017 murder.
“F–k you, I hope you rot,” one of Jason Starr’s daughters told him, according toNews 4.
Another daughter told Jason, “You are useless,” according to the local news outlet’s report of the sentencing hearing, published on Friday.
The Ledger also noted that the judge ordered Jason to pay a fine of $25,000.

The 7-year-old Alabama boy had gotten in trouble on the school bus. But after she picked up her child at the behest of school officials, she allegedly made the boy get out of her car, then ran him over, Police Chief Michael Abercrombie tells PEOPLE.
The child sustained relatively minor injuries, the chief says.
“It was a miracle he was not hurt worse than he was,” Abercrombie tells PEOPLE, adding: “God was watching over that child that day.
