Americans spend on average more than a dozen years per person suffering from disease — and have a greater “disease burden” than all other countries in theWorld Health Organization, a new study finds.
The research surveyed the health outcomes of 183 WHO member nations, and found that “the U.S. stood out with the largest healthspan-lifespan gap and greatest noncommunicable disease burden,” according to a study published in theJournal of the American Medical Association.

A new federal ruling could protect transgender people from a growing conservative effort to restrict access to gender-affirming healthcare.
Last week, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals published the opinion that 1990’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) extends to those suffering from gender dysphoria, reversing the previous ruling out of Virginia inKeshaWilliamsv.Stacey Kincaid.
“The ADA defines the term ‘disability’ broadly to include ‘a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities of such individual,'” the ruling states.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned that the heat will “feel extremely oppressive” in the northeast.It was after at least one person — who had other medical issues — died from heat exposure in New York City on Saturday.
