Twelve leaders of a California-based church were arrested Tuesday on charges that they forced dozens of mostly homeless people into panhandling and handing over their welfare benefits under the guise of “restoring” them from drug addiction.
TheU.S. Attorney’s Office announcedTuesday that various leaders — including the former pastor — of the Imperial Valley Ministries (IMV), based in El Centro, California, have been charged with conspiracy, forced labor, document servitude and benefits fraud in connection with their wide-ranging alleged schemes.

12 people are dead and multiple people injured after a man opened fire on a Municipal Complex Friday afternoon in what has been described as “Virginia Beach’s darkest hour.”
Shortly after 4:00 p.m. local time, a man, who was a Virginia Beach city employee, entered the building which houses public works, public utility and a printing operation and opened fire, Virginia Beach Police Chief James Cervera said in a press conference Friday evening.
