A 12-year-old girl on her way home from celebrating her birthday with her family was killed after floodwaters swept her away and into a storm drain in Missouri.
Wheetley said that the driver and two other children were able to safely exit the car, but when Aaleya did, she was caught in the current and swept into the drain, CBS affiliateKMOVreported. She was later found dead in Coldwater Creek.

A 12-year-old girl behind the wheel of a Ford Explorer SUV struck and killed a man and his dog, and the father who put her in the driver’s seat has been charged in connection with the man’s death, PEOPLE confirms.
According to anews releasefrom Houston police, 42-year-old Tomas Mejia Tol allowed his 12-year-old daughter to drive the black Ford Explorer.
The child “began to pull forward from a parking space as a man was walking with his dogs through the parking lot,” police said.
