The family of four — mom Michelle, dad Jason and their kids, Jay-Fay and Jace — had just finished serving meals for the homeless in a low-income Dallas neighborhood, an annual tradition, when they headed home.They say they took every standard precaution when getting in the car: Everyone was wearing their seat belts and 12-year-old Jay-Fay was seated behind her dad, who was driving.

A 12-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run accident while sledding in Oklahoma on Thursday.
The boy, who has not been identified, was sledding on the north side of East Albany Street in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, on Thursday evening when he slid into the road, according tothe police department.
He died a few hours later at the hospital, police said.
Officers are still working to identify the person who was driving the truck.

A 12-year-old boy is expected to be okay after falling into a well in Washington during recess, according to authorities.
The preteen was standing on the well’s lid Tuesday “when the concrete partially collapsed” and caused the boy to fall inside, according to anews releasefrom the Marysville Fire District.
First responders arrived at the scene just before 12:30 p.m. local time and found the boy “partially submerged in water” and “holding onto a plastic pipe about 20 feet” underground, the fire district said.

A Muslim civil rights advocacy group is calling for change after a 12-year-old athlete was forced to remove her hijab before boarding a flight in San Francisco.
“Scared and worried but able to maintain her composure, Ms. Fatima explained that she wears the hijab because of her sincerely-held religious beliefs as a practicing Muslim, where she chooses to cover herself in front of men who are not related to her and more generally, in public,” the complaint read.

However, gymnastics enthusiast Woodhead was less concerned about the attack than the impact it might have on an upcoming contest. She and her family had traveled from Philadelphia for a gymnastics competition and the shark attack came during a beach outing the family had taken the day before.
