Crime Scene tape.Photo:GettyA 17-year-old boy in Illinois faces murder charges as an adult after allegedly strangling his own mother to death Tuesday morning, according to prosecutors.Avion Tapia was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder on Wednesday, the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Officesaidin a news release.According to the state’s attorney, Tapia called 911 to report that his mother Vanessa Tucker was unresponsive and not breathing. Tapia allegedly told police that he and his mother, 36, had gotten into a physical altercation earlier in the morning.

A mother and her 17-year-old son were killed in Georgia last week when a train collided with their car.
The crash occurred Thursday morning on Highway 159 near Double Run Road, according tostatementsfrom the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office and a Georgia Department of Public Safety spokesperson.
Georgia troopers said in the report that the crossing arms were “activated and lowered” and that the red lights at the crossing were “active, illuminated, and flashing” as well.

“I was diagnosed when I was 3 and then I did three years of chemotherapy. I was re-diagnosed at 12, and then two years of chemo. Then, I was diagnosed again at 15,” Connor, now 17, tells PEOPLE.
“When he was diagnosed, for us, it was obviously devastating. It’s not the diagnosis I thought our family would ever have,” Connor’s father, Don McMahon, recalls.
Admitting that he “thought it was always somebody else’s family, it was not supposed to be ours,” Don says, “I think one of the things you realize is that it’s never the story anybody writes for themselves.

A 17-year-old boy from Chesapeake, Va., died Saturday after being buried beneath several feet of sand when a dune collapsed in North Carolina.
The hole was located in a “back-dune area,” east of an off-road vehicle ramp, and wasn’t visible from the main beach, per the statement.
