A 20-year-old California man was found guilty Tuesday of attempted murder for slashing the throat of his ex-girlfriend after she broke up with him, PEOPLE confirms.
A Los Angeles County jury also found Jason Scott Gustin guilty of mayhem and the special allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury upon the victim under circumstances involving domestic violence and that he used a knife during the crime.

A New York family is mourning after a high school football player died suddenly following a football practice.
Miguel Lugo, 17, reportedly suffered a medical emergency on Monday during the first practice of the season after COVID-19 related delays,USA Todayreported. Lugo was taken to a hospital, where he died.
A cause of death has yet to be determined, and Lugo’s family members are left questioning how their otherwise healthy son died so suddenly.

Deputies responded to the scene, near the Columbia River Highway, and found the teen dead.
No members of the train’s crew were hurt in the accident, Union Pacific said in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with the teen’s family and friends. We plead with parents, students and photographers to not take photos on or near the tracks,” the statement read.

A 17-year-old boy is dead after his friend allegedly mistook him for a deer and fatally shot him during a group hunting trip in Georgia on Saturday.
“I don’t know whether [Romero] just saw the bushes moving and shot him,” a spokesperson for the Glynn County Police Department tells PEOPLE. “The group loaded him up into a pick-up truck into the bed and took him to the closest gas station, where they met with an ambulance.
