Despite a diverse field of nominees in nearly every category at the 73rd PrimetimeEmmy Awards, no actors of color were awarded major trophies at the2021 ceremonyon Sunday.
Instead, white actors ultimately took home all 12 lead and supporting categories across the comedy, drama and limited races at the Emmys.

The2021 Emmysnominations were announced on Tuesday during a live, virtual event streamed on the Television Academy’s website.This Is UsstarRon Cephas JonesandHamilton’sJasmine Cephas Jones— who are also father and daughter in real-life — presented this year’s nominees alongside Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma.
Cedric the Entertainerwas announced as this year’s Emmys host on Monday. This year’s ceremony will also feature a limited in-person live audience of nominees and their guests, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Emmys to go mostly virtual in 2020.

The red carpet at the 2021Emmy Awardsis going to look different amid the ongoingCOVID-19 pandemic.On Friday, theTelevision Academyannounced in a press release that this year’s ceremony will limit the number of those allowed on the red carpet when the event airs next month on Sept. 19. On-site media, crew, and vendors will be required to show proof of vaccination to be admitted, and they must also test negative for the coronavirus.

“I assume we all have,” she added.
The 65-year-old actress went on to emphasize how important working onThe Handmaid’s Talehas been to her.
“I realized I thought I already knew how much work means to me, but the profound gratitude of getting back to work, and people making it — Hulu, in our case — making it so safe,” she said.
