Helen McDonald-Phalon was waiting for a downtown 6 train at the Union Square subway station around 3 a.m. when she was pulled under the moving train after getting caught between the car and the platform, according to theWall Street Journal.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE she was found unconscious and unresponsive with severe body trauma on the track floor.
Emergency medical services responded, but she was pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation is ongoing.

A 21-year-old woman is hoping to get justice after police say she was attacked on the driveway of her New York home.
Ina press release from the Nassau County Police Department, officials confirmed that the assault happened around 8:15 p.m. outside of the victim’s Arlington Avenue residence in Elmont.
On the GoFundMe page, Anjum stated that they later discovered the substance was “a dark brown acid known to cause blindness and severe burning.

A 21-year-old man fell to his death while attempting to take a picture during a camping trip at Lost Dutchman State Park in Arizona, according to authorities.
The body of hiker Richard Jacobson was recovered after he fell from Flatiron Peak in the Superstition Mountains, located to the east of the Phoenix metropolitan area, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says in a statement to PEOPLE.

A 21-year-old fire fighter recruit died this week after suddenly collapsing during training earlier this month.
Victor Melillo of Morris County, New Jersey, collapsed shortly after 9:30 a.m. on March 4, the county said in astatementreleased Tuesday.
Melillo had been participating in a training exercise in the parking lot of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy when he suddenly collapsed.
Several first responders were already on the scene, including EMTS and paramedics, who quickly attended to the young recruit before he was taken to the Morristown Medical Center.
