The corporation 3M has reached a settlement to resolve lawsuits that claimed it contaminated water supplies in the U.S. with toxic “forever chemicals.”
The company — based in Paul, Minnesota — announced on Thursday that it had agreed to pay up to $10.3 billion over 13 years to fund public water suppliers that have detected or will detect these chemicals in their drinking water, according to theNew York Times.

A 9-year-old horse named Kochees was the third horse in nine days to die at Santa Anita Park, a thoroughbred race track in Arcadia, California, and the 26th horse to die at the race track since the end of December.
Mike Willman, Santa Anita’s director of publicity, confirmed to PEOPLE that Kochees was injured in a race on Saturday and was euthanized one day later.

A third person has died aftera gunman opened fire at a house partyin Cumberland County, New Jersey, on Saturday night.
Braylin Holmes, 19, died on Monday night, succumbing to injuries she sustained during the shooting, according to a press release from the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Holmes was the youngest and most seriously injured of 12 people who were rushed to the hospital on Saturday, according toFOX29.

The New York City teenager who fatally stabbed Barnard studentTessa Majorsin the shadow of Columbia University two years ago pleaded guilty to murder and robbery Thursday, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office tells PEOPLE.
Rashaun Weaver, who was a 14-year-old middle school student at the time, admitted to stabbing Majors in Manhattan’s Morningside Park while his then-14-year-old friend held her in a headlock while trying to steal her phone.
