A 4-year-old girl from Galveston, Texas, died in her sleep last weekafter contracting COVID-19, her family said.
Kali Cook, a preschooler, started showing symptoms in the early morning of Sept. 6. Just over 24 hours later, at 7 a.m. the next day, she died of the virus, her mother, Karra Harwood,told theHouston Chronicle.
“It took her so fast,” Harwood said.
Cook’s symptoms started after her mom, who is unvaccinated,tested positive for COVID-19on Sept.

A 4-year-old Texas girl on the mend from recent brain surgery is missing after her stepfather says he was carjacked Friday night while driving with the girl and then knocked unconscious for about 24 hours.
Police, who have issued an Amber Alert for Maleah Davis, concede “there’s a lot of blanks in the story,” Sgt. Mark Holbrook of the Houston Police saidat a news conferenceon Sunday.

A Florida family is mourning the loss of 4-year-old twins who died after being found inside a toy chest at home.
The sheriff’s office said that while the investigation is still in a “very early stage,” the information they have “is that both children were playing in the home and when checked on, both were found unresponsive.”
“We are working with our partners at the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death,” police added.

A 4-year-old girl is missing andbelieved to be in “extreme danger”after allegedly being abducted in West Virginia, PEOPLE confirms.
Gracelynn June Scritchfield was last seen in Fairmont, West Virginia, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She was wearing summer attire.

A Nebraska girl is recovering after a brutal dog attack last month left her with severe injuries.
“Her cheek bone was broken, she has torn ligaments in her neck and stitches all over her body,” Lillianna’s great aunt Kimberly Lane Koterba wrote on fundraising page in February, adding that her great niece was previously diagnosed with spina bifida and that she expected the girl to have multiple surgeries.
