Scientists have discovered the perfectly preserved head of an Ice Age-era wolf that died at least 40,000 years ago in eastern Siberia, reports say.
Researchers found the wolf’s head back in August 2018 in the Arctic region of Yakutia, with the Siberian region’s permafrost preserving the animal’s brain, tongue, tissues and fur, according to theAssociated Press.
The animal lived alongside the mammoths, and both species became extinct at the same time, according to Valery Plotnikov, a researcher at the Russian Academy of Sciences, the AP reported.

San Diego police have identified themother and son who fell to their deathswhile attending an MLB game at Petco Park on Saturday, according to multiple outlets.
Raquel Wilkins, 40, and her 2-year-old son, Denzel Browning-Wilkins, were killed after they fell six stories at Petco Park a short time before the hometown San Diego Padres faced the visiting Atlanta Braves, according to local news stationsKFMBandKNSD.
Donald Wilkins, Raquel’s father, told KFMB that his daughter texted him pictures on Saturday that showed her smiling with her son.

Hundreds of koalas in Australia are one step closer to being protected from chlamydia.
About 400 koalas are set to receive a dose of a chlamydia vaccine as part of a trial at Queensland’s Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital,ReutersandThe Guardianreported. Because chlamydia is so pervasive among koalas, those running the trial hope that it will help the species' long-term survival.
The koalas involved in the trial, which kicked off on Friday, will get a jab of vaccine and a microchip, so that they can be tracked, before being sent back into the wild.

The crash occurred on a country highway near the small town of Randolph, andfootage of the aftermathreveals a fiery scene, with wreckage littering the two-lane road.
The Jarheads’ club president Manny Ribeiro tearfully described the crash as “far worse than anything I’ve ever experienced in my life” toCBS news’ Boston affiliate.
“It was like nothing I’ve ever seen in my life. It was awful,” he said. “Some of the finest people I’ve ever met in my life.

A spectacular five-tier wedding cake will be the stunning centerpiece at the luncheon reception to markPrincess EugenieandJack Brooksbank‘s royal wedding on Friday.
Cake designer Sophie Cabot started baking the red velvet and chocolate creation at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, and revealed it will contain up to 400 eggs, at least 53 packs of unsalted butter, 33 lbs. of organic self-rising flour and 44 lbs. of sugar.
Around 850 guests at the luncheon reception at Windsor Castle will feast on the confection, which will consist of three tiers of red velvet and two of chocolate sponge cake covered with butter cream, white icing and decorated with sugar work with an autumnal theme.
