For most of Merial Levy’s life,food was her “best friend”— and so was the staff at the drive-thru.
“They knew my voice when I’d drive up, that’s how bad it was,” the third-grade teacher, 50, tells PEOPLE for the2018 “How We Lost 100 Lbs.” issue.
Levy surpassed 200 lbs. as a freshman in college, and after her daughter was born in 1994 and before her son arrived in 2000, she had reached 300 lbs.

A Washington man has miraculously survived after authorities said he became trapped underneath a 1,500-pound bale of hay.
When they arrived, police found a 50-year-old local man under “a big bale,” which they noted weighed approximately 1,500 pounds.
“According to the farmer/hay owner, the man did not have permission to be on his property and had not purchased the hay,” the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office wrote in their post.

A 500-pound bear known as Hank the Tank has made himself at home in a California community, much to the chagrin of local residents.
Hank — who earned his name from South Lake Tahoe residents — has broken into dozens of homes in the area in recent months,The New York Timesreported. He has been eating human food and garbage and breaking into homes through garages, windows and doors, according to the newspaper.
