The hip hop community is mourning the loss of one New Orleans’ brightest stars.
5th Ward Weebie— a rapper from the Big Easy known for being a major player in the bounce music scene — died on Thursday, his publicist, Jonathan Thomas, confirmed to PEOPLE. He was 42.
The star, whose real name was Jerome Cosey,had gone through surgery for a ruptured artery and died in the hospital of related complications,The New Orleans Advocatereported.

Six African penguins at the Columbian Park Zoo have died, with three others in critical condition, after exhibiting symptoms of avian malaria.
“Avian malaria is one of the most significant causes of mortality in penguins, with rates as high as 50-90 percent,” the Columbian Park Zoo director, Neil Dale, said in a news release.
“Despite the best efforts of our veterinarian and staff, who provided around the clock care administering anti-malarial medications and other intensive care measures, we were unable to stop the progression of the infections,” Dale added about the six penguin deaths.

Six bodies have been found following a helicopter crash in Hawaii earlier this week, according to officials.
On Friday, shortly after the site of the crash was first discovered on the island of Kauai, authorities gave an update on their search, which began on Thursday, after theCoast Guard was notifiedthat the aircraft, which had seven people on board, hadfailed to returnat its scheduled time following a sightseeing tour.

Things have gone from scary to cheery for six dogs.
Along with saving the dogs, HSI also closed down the facility. This was the animal welfare organization’s 15th dog meat farm shutdown. After the closure, the charity helped the former dog meat farmer transition to a new life.
“There are thousands of dog farms across South Korea supplying live dogs to slaughterhouses, markets and restaurants for human consumption, but the trade has been in decline over the past several years as attitudes and appetites are changing.
