Six people are dead and at least nine more have been injured in amass shooting in Sacramentoearly Sunday morning, according to police. The shooter or shooters remain at large.
Sacramento Police Chief Katherine Lester told reporters at an early morning news conference that officers were in the area of 10th and K Streets around 2 a.m. local time Sunday morning “when they heard shots being fired,” perABC10.

A pair of young girls and a seven-year-old boy died after “sharp strings” slit their necks, reportedThe Evening Standard.
One of the victims, a two-year-old girl, was riding on a bike with her father when she became entangled with the string, per the newspaper. She died while being treated at the hospital, according to the Press Trust of India, citing a police official.

“[We] believe that this is not a random act of violence,” stated Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux in a media briefing. “We believe that this was a targeted family. We believe that there are gang associations involved in this scene, as well as potential narcotics investigations.”
According to Boudreaux, at just before 4 a.m. on Monday morning, deputies were summoned to the home due to a call reporting multiple shots fired.

A pileup of almost 100 vehicles on an Illinois highway on Monday left six individuals dead and more than thirty individuals injured.
The crashes occurred within a 2-mile stretch, according to the Illinois State Police.
“At 10:55 a.m. there was a crash on northbound Interstate 55 at Milepost 76. At the same time, there were numerous crashes on southbound Interstate 55 at Milepost 76,” the law enforcement agency said in apress release.
