Faye Swetlik,the 6-year-old South Carolina girl who went missing from her family’s front yard Monday, has been found dead, and police are investigating her death as a homicide.
“It is with extremely heavy hearts that we have found a body that the coroner has identified as Faye Marie Swetlik,” Cayce Department of Public Safety Director Byron Snelgrove announced at a press conference Thursday. “We are now treating this case a homicide.

Her abductor and killer was Coty Scott Taylor, 30, a neighbor of Faye’s who himself was found dead minutes after Faye’s body was discovered, Cayce Director of Public Safety Byron Snelgrove said at the press conference.
Officials did not address Taylor’s cause of death at the press conference and didn’t disclose a motive. Snelgrove said Taylor didn’t leave a message or note of any kind and said he was “the sole perpetrator of this crime.

The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot his teacher in a Virginia classroom on Friday could potentially face criminal charges.
The shooting took place atRichneck Elementary Schoolin Newport News, Va. The bullet struck the teacher, Abigail Zwerner, in the hand before going into her upper chest. Her injuries were initially described as life-threatening but she is now in stable condition, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew said Monday,reportsThe New York Times.

A Utah man suspected of kidnapping, raping and murdering a 6-year-old girl in 2012 pleaded guilty on Thursday, PEOPLE confirms.
Terry Lee Black, 47, entered Alford pleas to felony charges of aggravated murder, child kidnapping and rape of a child in Salt Lake County in the death of Sierra Newbold.
An Alford plea is a kind of guilty plea in which the accused acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to convict but does not admit to the allegations against them.
