Andrew Lester, 84, who is White, has been charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action in the Thursday shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl, Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson said Monday,according to KMBC News. “I can tell you there was a racial component to this case,” Thompson said at a news conference,according to CNN.

The 14-year-old tortoise was found slowly making her way alongside Interstate 40 on Sunday after breaking free from her backyard enclosure, according to her owner Chelsea Hattaway. The discovery marked the third time Potato — who weighed just 25 lbs. when Hattaway adopted her from a tortoise rescue nine years ago — had been found away from her home.
