The helicopter carrying nine passengers, includingKobe Bryantand hisdaughter Gianna, crashed within seconds of being heard overhead in Calabasas, California.
Scott Daehlin, who was the first to contact the authorities about the crash, was on his way to his van to grab a pair of headphones before a musical rehearsal at a local church, when he heard the helicopter, seemingly directly over his head.
“It was right at 9:41 a.m.,” Daehlin, 61, tells PEOPLE, noting that the cloud deck “was much lower” than normal.

Multiple residents of the Champlain Towers South condo reportedly called 911 in the early hours of June 24, and described the terrifying scene that was unfolding in Florida, according toThe Miami HeraldandCBS News.
“It seemed like here it was an earthquake,” said one caller at 1:17 am, according to the outlet. “The garage, everything — seemed like something underground — everything exploded down.”
“If there was an explosion — and I don’t know what could have caused it — but that could have caused that slab to fall,” Lehman explained, noting that gas lines or fuel tanks could have ignited to cause the “explosion” and the building slab falling may have been responsible for the “earthquake.

“We are on Salkehatchie Road and there is a male on the side of the road with blood all over him and he’s waving his hands,” the driver tells a 911 dispatcher. “He’s fine, he looks fine, but it kinda looks like a set-up so we didn’t stop.”
In response, the emergency dispatcher replies, “Oh, I don’t blame you.”
“I got a flat tire, and I stopped, and somebody stopped to help me, and when I turned my back, they tried to shoot me,” Murdaugh tells the dispatcher.

A 911 dispatcher has been suspended from her position after she allegedly hung up on a caller who was inside the Tops Supermarket in Buffalo, New York, duringSaturday’s mass shootingthat killed 10.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz spoke to reporters Wednesday, and called the 911 dispatcher’s alleged actions “totally inappropriate.”
Poloncarz said the dispatcher, who was not identified, has been placed on leave and faces possible termination pending the outcome of an administrative hearing set to take place at the end of the month.
